DEC 6 | 7PM | MARNIE (1964)
Sexual repression, blackmail, and murder are at the heart of Hitchcock’s most controversial movie, rejected by audiences in 1964 but later hailed by many critics as an overlooked masterpiece. Marnie Edgar is a beautiful thief (Tippi Hedren) who picks the wrong target in businessman Mark Rutland (Sean Connery, at the peak of his James Bond fame). Rutland catches Marnie mid-theft, traps her in a relationship—then tries to solve the mystery of what drives her criminal impulses. MARNIE’s added attractions include a full-blooded score by Bernard Herrmann, and a scene-stealing performance by Diane Baker as a rival for Mark’s affections. And we guarantee a lively post-screening discussion!
