FROM PARIS TO PITTSBURGH- Paris to Pittsburgh brings to life the impassioned efforts of individuals who are battling the most severe threats of climate change in their own backyards. Set against the national debate over the United States' energy future - and the Trump administration's explosive decision to exit the Paris Climate Agreement - the film captures what's at stake for communities around the country and the inspiring ways Americans are responding.
EXTINCTION REBELLION- Jaya Daniels
JAYA DANIEL has been an activist since the 1980’s, when she became a youth worker with the local Quaker Society of Friends and the Cleveland Nuclear Freeze movement. While working with the Cleveland Free Clinic’s HIV testing program in the early 80’s, Jaya won an Ohio Award of Achievement in Medicine for helping to develop and advocate for Ohio’s first grassroots HIV medical program, supported by her participation in ACT UP.
In the past decade, Jaya has dedicated herself to environmental causes, concentrating on oil and gas and fracking issues in Ventura County after experiencing the effects of living next to an oilfield firsthand. She and her partner also led the Indivisible Ojai group until the devastating Thomas Fire made them climate refugees and brought them both here to our valley. Now, Jaya and Bob coordinate Extinction Rebellion Coachella Valley, a non-violent direct action group seeking to wake up our world and its leaders to the reality of the climate emergency we face.
