Double Feature:

Join The Filmmakers' Gallery, as we celebrate the upcoming 2019 Cinema Diverse Film Festival with this special "Double Feature" event!

On Friday, September 13, our evening will begin with a reception from 5-6pm upstairs in the lounge in the Camelot Theaters inside the Palm Springs Cultural Center.

Then, at 6pm, we will screen the award-winning film WAITING IN THE WINGS: THE MUSICAL with special guest, writer, producer and star Jeffrey A. Johns! Two entertainers are mismatched in a casting office from two very different online contests. Tony (Adam Huss), a stripper from New York, is cast in an Off-Broadway musical and needs to trade in his tear-away trunks for tap shoes and tights. Anthony (Jeffrey A. Johns), a naive musical theatre enthusiast from Montana, needs to decide if he can strip all the way down just to stay in town. Hilarity ensues as they realize that in order to "make it" they're going to have to learn some new tricks! Academy Award-winner Shirley Jones, EMMY Award-winner Sally Struthers, and TV legend Lee Meriwether round out this heartwarming homage to Broadway with some delightful cameos!
A Conversation with: Jeffrey A. Johns will follow the screening.

At 8:30 pm, we will screen the award-winning sexy romantic drama BEAUTIFUL SOMETHING, Starring Brian Sheppard, Zack Ryan and Colman Domingo; and written and produced by Joseph Graham.
Four diverse gay men navigate art, sex and love in one sublime night.

The Thrill of it All

Join The Filmmakers' Gallery on Wednesday, September 25th from 6-10pm as we pay tribute to a legend of song, film and television, Doris Day when we present a special screening of...

"The Thrill of it All" -with Special Guests, Kym Karath & Brian Nash(Doris Day's 2 Children from the movie!)

The Happy Soap Company is owned and managed by the Fraleigh family. Although he is more of a company figurehead than an active participant in the company's day-to-day business, anything that family patriarch Tom Fraleigh wants for the company he usually gets. What he wants is Beverly Boyer - the wife of his daughter-in-law's obstetrician, Dr. Gerald Boyer - to appear as the company spokesperson when Beverly, who he meets at a small dinner party, mentions a personal and true story about how Happy Soap saved her life. She is to appear in a live commercial spot during a Happy Soap sponsored television show telling her story just as she told Tom. Despite Beverly's performance going poorly in her own mind, Tom loved it and how refreshing and honest Beverly came across to the viewer. So Tom signs her to a one year, $80,000 contract to continue doing the same. This move is questioned by Happy Soap's own managers and its advertising company. But it is questioned even more by Gerald, who believes Beverly's place is in the home taking care of the house and their two adolescent children. As Beverly continues to do the commercials, her fame rises and her professional commitments increase which add another level of strain to their marriage. Only a natural act by Mrs. Fraleigh Jr. may be able to save the Boyer's marriage.
